After 31 years, the Eddie Murphy 80s comedy Coming To America is getting its sequel. Eddie Murphy has already signed to reprise his role as Akeem in the story of an African Prince who travels to Queens, New York to find love and escape his arranged marriage.
According to Deadline, the sequel will center on Akeem’s long lost son. After learning of his heir’s existence, the Prince of Zamunda will return to America to meet him. While all the stars of the original cast have not yet signed on to reprise their roles for Coming to America 2, “the intention is to bring back them all back,” including Arsenio Hall, who played Prince Akeem’s aide, Semmi; Shari Headley, who played Lisa and won Akeem’s heart; John Amos, who played her father Cleo, and was the famous owner of McDowell’s; and James Earl Jones, who played King Jaffe.
Production on the sequel should begin some time this year.
