In The News For October 2, 2018

Clarence Rockland fire crews were called for a second time this morning to a fire after they were called last night  to the  scene of a structure fire on Albert street between St-Jacques and St-Louis.  The two houses beside were evacuated and soaked down according to witnesses. No reports of injuries or the cost of damages as of yet.

 

 

Canada’s second-most populous province has joined the even bigger province of Ontario in voting for change following about 15 years of Liberal government. Quebec voters have shattered nearly a half-century of two-party rule in the province in giving the seven-year-old Coalition Avenir Quebec party a majority mandate in yesterday’s election. Premier-designate Francois Legault’s right-leaning C-A-Q won 74 seats, more than double the 32 won by the incumbent Liberals, and he reached out to anglophone voters to work with him to make Quebec stronger. Outgoing Liberal premier Philippe Couillard said he would take a few days to ponder his own political future. Parti Quebecois Leader Jean-Francois Lisee stepped down as leader after the P-Q won only nine seats.

 

 

The province is demanding that Ottawa compensate dairy farmers adversly affected by Canada’s new trade deal with the U-S and Mexico.Premier Doug Ford says he’s worried farmers were “thrown under the bus” by the federal government. The deal gave up some access to Canada’s dairy, egg and poultry industries.Ford emphasized the need for the agricultural sector to be
compensated and his economic development minister expressed frustration the federal government hadn’t provided more details on the issue.

 

 

A 62-year-old man from Ottawa, Jacques Joly is facing 14 criminal charges related to rape, having sex with minors and indecent assault, among other things. The Ottawa Police Service began an investigation back on July 10 after a victim came forward. Investigators believe that there may be other victims and are asking them to contact police. There have also been charges laid under the Youth Criminal Justice Act in regards to historical incidents. Anyone with information is asked to call Ottawa Police.
