Police are looking for Crystal Bastien, wanted on a first degree murder charge after a homicide at a hotel on Walkley Road near Bank Street. Officers responded to a call from a hotel room around 11 p.m. on Saturday, , and found 30 year old Mohamad Mana,of Ottawa dead. Bastien, 32, of Ottawa, is described as being a white woman, standing 5′ 2”and 135 lbs.
Ottawa Fire Service crews were called to a two-storey semi detached home on Concord Street in Old Ottawa East, yesterday morning, where a working fire was declared. It took just over an hour to get the flames under control.
Beau’s Oktoberfest, takes place Friday and Saturday at the Vankleek Hill fairgrounds with Friday night the opening parade down Vankleek Hill’s Main Street at 5 p.m. More than 20 vintage tractors are part of the line-up. High Street will be down to one lane only during Beau’s Oktoberfest due to the ongoing construction. A suggested detour to avoid the construction will be marked using Aberdeen, Duval and Main Street West. Coming up on its 10th edition Beau’s Oktoberfest has already raised more than $615,000 for charity, community, independent arts and global fairness since it launched in 2009.

October 6 is the day that residential property owners in Champlain Township, Hawkesbury and the Township of East Hawkesbury can dispose of household hazardous waste items, as part of an initiation by the Hawkesbury regional recycling committee. The hours for the drop-off are from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hawkesbury Sewage Treatment Plant at 815 Main Street East in Hawkesbury.
