Rotating strikes are back on at Canada Post. The union says the job action will resume Tuesday after two-and-a-half weeks of mediated talks failed to bring the two sides any closer. CUP-W says it is frustrated by what it calls the Crown corporation’s perceived unwillingness to address key concerns, including equality for rural and suburban letter carriers. The latest round of rotating strikes has forced the shut down of postal operations in more than 150 communities. The Crown corporation says it’s created a backlog and caused delivery delays.

After weeks of delays, the provincial government says Ontario’s only outlet for legal recreational cannabis has eliminated its
backlog on orders and is back on track. Finance Minister Vic Fedeli said yesterday the government-run Ontario Cannabis Store is returning to its original delivery time of one to three days after struggling to meet the staggering demand for recreational cannabis since it became legal last month. The Ontario Cannabis Store launched October 17th and remains the only way for residents in the province to legally purchase recreational cannabis until brick-and-mortar stores are put in place next year.

Fire fighters tossed out some smoldering bedding and other items when they responded to an apartment fire call in downtown Hawkesbury yesterday morning. They checked the ground-floor part of the building but it did not appear they found anyone inside the multi-plex building at the time.  A section of Main Street between the intersections with Abbott and Dufferin Streets was blocked off for a time.

A culvert replacement at the south side of the overpass at Herb’s Travel Plaza on Highway 34 south of Vankleek Hill —  which would mean the closure of Highway 34 for 57 hours —  is not going to be done until after Labour Day of next year. The work has been delayed due in part to the new government in place, which has caused delays in the approval process. Reports are the traffic lights at the intersection, where numerous accidents have occurred, will be installed before Christmas but the highway will not be closed for that work.
