Last night’s city council meeting resolved the issue on the future of the Rockland arena, which also serves as the city’s community center. It was proposed that the arena be transformed into a parking facility for community service vehicles. This concept received a lot of opposition from not only council, but also service clubs, and associations who use the facility, including the local cadets.
An on line petition was also put forward to save The Jean-Marc Lalonde arena, receiving hundreds of signatures, and support from the community.
Based on a vote last night, it was decided that the Jean-Marc Lalonde arena will not close and become a parking facility.
Councilor Jean-Marc Lalonde spoke to Derrick Scott this on the Jewel 92.5 Morning Show, “Derrick & Sylvia” about the decision. Click on the audio link below to listen back.
