Merriam-Webster Adds ‘Dumpster Fire’ And Hundreds More

Yesterday the company added over 800 new words, and terms to it’s on line dictionary, including “Dumpster Fire” The phrase, which means “an utterly calamitous or mismanaged situation or occurrence.”

 

Also added: “cryptocurrency” (a digital currency that operates independently of a central bank)  “wanderworts” (meaning words that come from other places, derived from the German words for “wander” and “word”) and “demonym” (a person who comes from a specific place, like a Parisian).

 

New hybrid words for dog breeds were also included in the new edition, including “chiweenie” (a cross between a Chihuahua and a dachshund), “schnoodle” (a schnauzer and a poodle) and “Yorkie-poo” (a Yorkshire terrier and a poodle)

 

Plus, “life hack,” “hate-watch,”  “hmm,” “ooh,” “mm-hmm,” and “welp” (a remark expressing resignation or disappointment).
