Statistics Canada will release the Employment Insurance figures for June this morning. StatsCan last reported that about 454-thousand people received regular EI benefits in May, virtually unchanged from April. The latest jobs numbers from Ottawa revealed that the economy generated over 54-thousand net new jobs in July, pushing the unemployment rate back to its four-decade low of 5.8 per cent.

As Prime Minister Justin Trudeau holds his cabinet retreat in a province coping with 560 wildfires, several hundred anti-pipeline protesters want him to know that climate change won’t improve with more pipelines. Trudeau’s balancing act of wanting to reduce carbon emissions while building an oil pipeline came under attack Wednesday outside the Nanaimo, B-C venue where his cabinet is plotting Parliament’s fall session. Trudeau’s own government attributes the B-C wildfires to climate change, so protesters question how Ottawa can justify purchasing the Trans Mountain pipeline for expansion.

The OPP are asking for your help in finding a man who allegedly committed an indecent act in Clarence-Rockland. At approximately 9:30 last Saturday evening officers with the Russell County OPP responded to a report of a male committing an indecent act. A woman had been walking her dog on a walkway in the area of Lawrence and Laurier Streets when she saw a man in the bushes exposing himself. The male appeared to follow the woman as she continued walking. The woman lost sight of the male in the Caron Street area. The male is described as white, 45-50 years of age, bald on top but grey, bushy hair around the back and sides of his head and 250-275 lbs. He was wearing  glasses, a tan t-shirt and cargo shorts. Anyone who may have seen someone of this description or with information about the incident can call the Russell County OPP detachment.

The theme for some new welcome sign additions to the municipality of Russell will be Welcome to Russell Township, one of the best places to live. The KinClub is fundraising now to put up a new series of Welcome to Russell signs at the east and west entrances to the Village of Russell, with special features that will help highlight the municipality to visitors, prospective new families, and business interests.
