In The News For Clarence Rockland — April 13, 2018

After a request and a survey to gage public opinion the Clarence Rockland municipal council came to the decision to extend business hours to 9 p.m. on Sunday and remain open on Family Day and Victoria Day.   Businesses in Clarence-Rockland have been  permitted to stay open until 10 p.m. from Monday to Friday, and that will not change.  The new change will enable businesses to compete against pharmacies that are already permitted to stay open later on Sundays. The same is true for Family Day and Victoria Day.


A Canadian online pharmacy is expected to be fined 34-million dollars for importing counterfeit cancer drugs and other unapproved pharmaceuticals into the U-S. Canada Drugs, the self proclaimed largest internet drugstore in the country, and its founder, Kris Thorkelson, are being sentenced today after pleading guilty to felony charges in Montana. Prosecutors say the company has made at least 78-million dollars since 2001 by importing mislabelled and unapproved drugs, including two counterfeit cancer drugs that had no active ingredients.


A new study finds that staying up late could have serious health consequences. Researchers from England’s University of Surrey and Northwestern University in Chicago found that night owls had a 10 per cent increased risk of death during the six-and-a-half years of the study. The study’s lead author says an important message for night owls to take from this is to be much more vigilant about living a healthy
