Wintry weather is expected across many parts of Ontario over the next couple of days thanks to a Colorado low pressure system that will track eastward. Environment Canada says the system will spread into much of central and eastern Ontario this afternoon. The weather says the precipitation will likely start off as light rain or snow, but may turn into freezing rain this evening. The freezing rain may go on for several hours, particularly over central Ontario.
A tentative agreement was reached to a strike at Carleton University that began March 5th. More than 850 administrative, technical, and library workers had walked out in a dispute that focused primarily on pensions. The university says it came to terms with CUPE Local 2424 after a full day of mediated talks. Details are to be released after a ratification vote by staff, which the union says is scheduled for today at 8 a-m.
A fatal collision on the corner of Merivale and Viewmount late last night has left two people dead. One vehicle t-boned another at the intersection around 11:40. Two occupants of one vehicle, a man and a woman in their 50s, were taken to hospital in cardiac arrest. A 19-year-old male in the second vehicle was treated on scene and refused transport to hospital. Merivale is closed from Viewmount to Collenade as police investigate.
A house fire in a duplex at 2700 Howe Street in Britannia killed three pet dogs and has left 2 adults and a child displaced. Firefighters say there was heavy smoke in a ground-floor kitchen and three people suffered non-serious smoke inhalation. Damages are estimated at $100,000.
