In The News For Clarence Rockland — April 6, 2018

Sad news just breaking this morning. Jonathan Pitre, known as Ottawa’s “Butterfly Child”  died yesterday of complications from septic shock  in a Minnesota hospital at the age of 17. As always his mother was by his side. She is now arranging to have her son’s body flown back to Ottawa, and is planning a small, private funeral.

 

As of today, Canadians will be able to receive emergency alerts on their cellphones. The National Public Alerting System — commonly called Alert Ready — will now include wireless networks, in addition to traditional broadcast channels such as T-V and radio. Officials will be able to send a localized alert of a life-threatening emergency that will compel compatible phones to emit an alarm and display a text warning. The C-R-T-C plans to conduct a test of the new mobile system during the week of May 6th.

 

Liberal MPP Grant Crack is retiring from provincial politics after two terms at Queen’s Park.Crack, won the riding of Glengarry-Prescott-Russell in 2011 and 2014, and before that he served 11 years as mayor of North Glengarry. His announcement says only that he will pursue other career opportunities.​ Later in the day Russell Township Mayor Pierre Leroux said he will seek the Liberal nomination in Glengarry-Prescott-Russell now.​ If Leroux wins the Liberal nomination, he’ll be up against fellow Russell council member Amanda Simard, who won the Progressive Conservative nomination more than a year ago.

 

Provincial police are looking for help in locating 16-year-old Darcy Desjardins, who has been missing Tuesday night, after leaving her home in Clarence-Rockland on foot.  Darcy is described as: -5’9 t-150 lbs.-black hair-Blue eyes Darcy was last seen wearing a blue Columbia jacket with fur around the hood and black Nike sneakers. Police are concerned for her safety. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call Rockland OPP.

 

A lawyer for a former Ottawa fertility doctor is not commenting on the latest accusations from a law firm that’s pursuing a class-action suit against him. Law firm Nelligan O’Brien Payne says D-N-A evidence shows Doctor Norman Barwin fathered 11 children by impregnating patients with his own sperm. An Ottawa family filed a proposed class-action lawsuit against Barwin two years ago, alleging he’s the biological father of their daughter. The law firm says it also knows of at least another 16 individuals conceived through Barwin’s practice who are not a biological match to the intended father. None of the allegations against Barwin has been proven in court.

 

The town of Clarence Rockland is advising that due to Spring flooding there are road closures in effect: Du Lac Road  from 2787  to Lalonde Road.  Also, Johnston Road, south of Russell Road and Ettyville Road is closed .
