The race to lead Ontario’s Progressive Conservative party has attracted a high-profile candidate once considered the odds-on favourite for the party’s top job. Former Ontario legislator Christine Elliott announced via social media she’s running to lead the provincial Tories, after the party was rocked last week by sexual misconduct allegations. She announced her leadership plans with a simple tweet — saying– ”I’m in.” Elliott will be among those vying to replace Patrick Brown, who resigned last week amid allegations he categorically denies.
Three people are dead following a helicopter crash last night near Drummondville, Que. Quebec provincial police say the aircraft went down in a field just north of the city at about 9 p.m. The helicopter caught fire upon impact. There was no immediate word on the identities of the victims, nor on what may have caused the crash.
Ottawa police have one person in custody following reports of gunshots in the area of Queen Mary Street and Lola Street in Overbrook at around 5:30 yesterday afternoon. A male suspect was arrested about two blocks away a short time after the shooting. There are no reports of injuries. There have been 14 reports of shootings in Ottawa since January 1st
Gatineau Police say the suspicious death of a woman in her 50s was a homicide, the first in Gatineau this year. Police say the woman’s body was found Tuesday afternoon, in a home on rue Napoléon-Groulx, east of downtown. Few other details are being released.
