Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for our Region. The snow is forecast to begin around 8 or 9 a.m. and last through the day before ending around 6 p.m this evening. School bus and special vehicle transportation has been cancelled in all counties served by the:Catholic District School Board of Eastern Ontario and the Upper Canada District School Board.
Two new fire stations opened yesterday to better meet the fire and emergency protection needs in Cumberland and Beacon Hill. The stations are the result of the City of Ottawa’s fire station location study in 2015. A key recommendation from this study was to close two stations in Beacon Hill and replace them with the two new stations opening today. Each station is equipped with a pumper truck and 16 personnel.
All of Eastern Ontario is getting behind to support a project to close up holes in the regional cellphone communications network. The Eastern Ontario Wardens Caucus has given top priority to support for the Eastern Ontario Regional Network’s project for improving cellular phone service for the region. The United Counties of Prescott-Russell council has voted unanimous support for both the project and for the Wardens’ Caucus as the spearhead for the regional lobby pointing at the provincial and federal governments. The project seek a private-public partnership for the $213 million cellular gap project.
St. Andrew’s Christian Church in Rockland received $24,020 from the federal government’s New Horizons For Seniors Program. The grant will be used for several projects. The Seniors group of St-Andrew’s Christian Church organizes numerous activities for the community, including social gatherings every Tuesday and community dinners.
