In The News For Clarence Rockland — January 29, 2018

Fire crews battled a two-alarm blaze through the night in Orleans at 2243 Page Rd. last night. The blaze burned through portions of both the ground floor and the roof of an unoccupied home under construction.  One fire fighter sustained a minor hand injury, but no other injuries were reported. Police say an investigator will evaluate the scene later today, and that the damage to the home is extensive.
A food recall warning has been issued for Coconut Tree brand Shredded Young Coconut. The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says the product, which is sold across Ontario, is being pulled from the marketplace due to possible Salmonella contamination. There have been no reported illnesses linked to the product.

It was a prosperous weekend for Ontario lottery players. A ticket sold in the Hamilton area claimed Saturday’s 23-million dollar Lotto 649 jackpot, while the draw’s one-million dollar guaranteed prize went to a Toronto ticket holder. A lottery player in Ottawa also won a 100-thousand dollar prize.
