In The News For Clarence Rockland — January 31, 2018

Emergency crews in Ottawa were called to the northbound lanes of St. Laurent Blvd. after a single vehicle collision just outside Rideau High School at around 3:30 yesterday afternoon. A man needed to be extricated from the vehicle by Ottawa firefighters and later died in hospital. Ottawa Paramedics say the man, in his 50s, had gone into cardiac arrest before the crash.

Police have issued a Canada-wide warrant for a suspect in the city’s second gun-murder of 2018. Police are looking for 20 year old  Ali Omar Mohamed, 20, on a second degree murder charge in connection with the shooting death of  22 year old Adam Perron. Perron died after he was shot at an apartment on McLeod Street in Ottawa early in the morning of January 18, 2018. Mohamed should be considered armed and dangerous, according to police, and the public is warned not to approach him. Mohamed also goes by the street name “Simba.” Anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the Ottawa Police Major Crime Unit at 613-236-1222, ext. 5493.

Night-sky gazers will get a show today and tonight that might warrant some popcorn! Most of the world will get to see what scientists are calling a lunar trifecta — a triple lineup not seen since 1982. Not only will there be a supermoon tonight and a blue moon since it’s the second full moon of the month — but there will also be a total lunar eclipse when the moon moves into the Earth’s shadow. The lunar eclipse will be best visible in the western half of Canada and the U-S before the moon sets early this morning.
