Yesterday, Premier Kathleen Wynne announced that full-day licensed child care will become free for preschool children from the age of two-and-a-half until they are eligible to start kindergarten, beginning in 2020. Free preschool child care will save families an estimated $17,000 per child, allow parents to go back to work when they choose and help give children the best start in life.
The latest data on opioid deaths in Canada suggests the problem isn’t going away. The Public Health Agency says between January and September of last year, there were 29-hundred-and-23 deaths nationwide believed to have stemmed from overdoses from prescription opioids and highly toxic illegal drugs. Authorities have identified China as a leading source of opioids entering North America.
The OPP and municipal police services are holding a Gun Amnesty during the month of April. The gun amnesty is for any Ontario resident who wishes to voluntarily surrender unwanted or illegally-owned firearms, weapons, accessories or ammunition. The amnesty is a way to provide citizens with a safe way to surrender weapons and enhance public safety. During the amnesty, police will not recommend weapons-related Criminal Code charges that might otherwise apply to people who are turning in these items. Police note no amnesty is offered for people who turn in weapons that have been used in the commission of a crime. No anonymous submissions will be accepted. Interested gun owners are strongly urged to call the OPP (or their local police service’s) non-emergency number at 1-888-310-1122 to arrange for officers to attend and safely retrieve the weapons. A thorough crime investigation has been completed into the death on a property near St-Eugene in East-Hawkesbury Township. The man was found in the single home deceased last January 28th , and it has been determined no signs of foul play in the death incident.
The City of Clarence Rockland’s administrative offices will be closed good Friday and Easter Monday. There will be no CR Transpo bus service or garbage pick-up for either days. Garbage pick-up will be pushed by one day to April 2nd . Next Tuesday the city of Clarence- Rockland will commemorate World Autism Awareness Day with the raising of the Autism Flag during a short ceremony.
