In The News For Clarence-Rockland — March 5, 2018

It looks like commuters could expect slow downs this morning as tow truck drivers hold a protest. It is supposed to begin at 7:00  through to 9:00 this morning starting at the police station in Orleans going to City Hall. Expect slow-downs, more than likely on the westbound 174.

 

Ottawa Police are investigating a murder in the parking lot of Billings Bridge Mall. A body was found in the area of Data Centre Road, between Heron Road and Riverside Drive, around 10 p.m. .  No other details have been released while police investigate. This is Ottawa’s seventh homicide of 2018.

 

The Ottawa Police Service is asking for the public’s assistance in locating 32 year old missing female Jennifer Scott. She was last seen by her family in Ottawa on Feb 28th and she had been in communication with a friend on March 3rdth at 1200 p.m. Her family is concerned for her. Scott is described as a white female 5’3, 105lbs, with dark shoulder length hair.

 

There is less than one week left in the race to pick the next leader of Ontario’s Progressive Conservative pa rty. Members have most of the week to cast a ballot for any of the four candidates running. Former provincial legislator Christine Elliott, former Toronto City Councillor Doug Ford, Toronto lawyer Caroline Mulroney and social conservative advocate Tanya Granic Allen are all in the running to replace Patrick Brown, who abruptly stepped down in late January. Members have until 8 p.m. Wednesday to register to vote and until noon on Friday to cast their ballots online.

 

Love won out at the 90th Academy Awards as  “The Shape of Water” swam away with best picture Oscar.`  The movie was filmed in Toronto and Hamilton.Last night’s Oscar ceremony wrestled with some problems in Hollywood, like gender equality and diversity. Much of the broadcast, hosted for the second time by Jimmy Kimmel, pointed a way forward for the industry. Kimmel cited the industry’s poor record for female directors and equal pay, and said “we can’t let bad behaviour slide anymore.” He also referenced the movement against sexual misconduct and praised the Oscar statue for keeping “his hands where you can see them.”
