Health Canada wants to see plain packaging for marijuana containing warnings highlighting the risks including cannabis use during pregnancy, drug-impaired driving and mixing pot with alcohol. The proposed regulations rolled out by Health Canada for the sale of recreational pot are now open to public feedback for the next two months. The federal government plans to legalize pot by next July.


The judge in the first-degree murder trial of Basil Borutski is to charge the jury today in an Ottawa courtroom. After that, deliberations are to begin in the case of the 60-year-old man accused of killing three women as an act of revenge. The jurors have been told that they must decide if Borutski planned and deliberately killed the three women.


Ottawa police say the pilot of a small plane walked away after a crash landing yesterday near Shirley’s Bay. Constable Marc Soucy says the plane ended up with significant damage after the landing, but the pilot — who was the only person on board — was not injured. The Ministry of Transportation has been called in to investigate the emergency landing.


David Cassidy, the teen and pre-teen idol who starred in the 1970s sitcom “The Partridge Family” and sold millions of records as the musical group’s lead singer, died Tuesday at age 67. Cassidy, who announced earlier this year that he had been diagnosed with dementia, died surrounded by his family.
