Legalized recreational marijuana is expected to top today’s agenda when Justice Minister Jody Wilson-Raybould meets with her provincial and territorial counterparts in Vancouver. Earlier this week, representatives from several police forces warned there was zero chance police would be ready in time to enforce new laws for legalized cannabis, set to roll out next summer.
A shooting outside Crazy Horse, a Kanata bar around 2:00 early this morning has wounded a man. The man was shot in the leg and taken to hospital. Police have hauled away a vehicle from the scene. There is no word on suspects.
An Ottawa man has been fined more than 12-thousand dollars after advertising illegal electrical work on Kijiji. The Electrical Safety Authority says Yvon Richer was convicted of doing electrical work without a licence. Chief Public Safety Officer Scott Saint says the authority has been dedicating its resources to help crack down on such practices. But he says it’s also the responsibility of homeowners to do their homework and make sure the contractors they hire are properly licensed.
The City of Clarence-Rockland is inviting all residents to prepare for the Fall Clean-up. A special collection of heavy objects and waste will be done on October 2nd, to 6th. Unwanted articles can be brought to the Municipal Landfill site at 2335 Lalonde Road, in Bourget, at no charge except for applicances containing refrigerants (charges will apply) on October 6th and 7th from 8:30 am to 5 pm.
