Fiat Chrysler is recalling almost 700,000 SUVs worldwide to fix a fuel pump problem that may cause engines to stall. The automaker has issued a recall of certain 2011 to 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokees and Dodge Durango SUVs.
Dealers reported a problem that discovered silicon deposits on the contact points of fuel pump relays that may cut electrical current and prevent engine startup or cause a stall, the company said. The automaker says it has to recall 528,594 of the vehicles in the US, 34,754 in Canada and 18,152 in Mexico. Another 116,511 affected vehicles are being recalled from outside of North America.
The relays on some of the vehicles may have been installed in response to a previous recall, Fiat Chrysler says. Affected customers will be alerted on when to schedule their vehicles for service, which will be free of charge. Those with questions, are directed to call (800) 853-1403.
