On May 27, 2017 The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 554, Rockland Ontario sent a cheque in the amount of $10,000.00 to the “Leave the Streets Behind” initiative.
Each year Legions across the country ask for your donations during the 2 week Poppy Campaign, which begins on the last Friday of October, and ends on Remembrance Day on November 11.
Your donations are slated for very specific initiatives as local Youth Organizations such as Air Cadets, bursaries for children of veterans, and the Homeless Veterans Fund. The “Leave the Streets Behind” initiative is a program to help Veterans and their family members leave the streets behind and turn their lives around through national and provincial programs offering financial assistance and supports for homeless Veterans and those at-risk.
In addition, through your generosity we were able to present the Provincial Services Officer with a cheque in the amount of $5000.00 in order to make available assistance to veterans that may need help with medical or assimilation back into the community.
Your local branch also has funds for emergency purposes such as the recent floods that caused so much damage and hardships for many of our residents.
Your branch 554 is extremely proud of its work and hope we can continue to serve this community for years to come.
We are always looking for new members and invite anyone interested to contact our membership chair for information or an application. All you need is to be at least 18 years of age and a Canadian citizen.
