The Eyes Have It And They’re Losing It

A new study by Scrivens Opticians and OnePoll reveals that the percentage of young people in need of glasses has doubled in recent years due to too much time spent in front of screens. Other findings:

– 35% of people, between the ages of 13 and 16, need glasses. That’s up from 20% in 2012

– the average young person spends 26 hours per week staring at phones, playing video games, and watching TV

– 73% of parents say it is a “challenge” to get their kids to stop staring at screens

– 26% of parents have never taken their child for an eye exam

– researchers say too much screen time results in eye strain, shortsightedness, and blurry vision
